I have spent most of my adult life looking after and nurturing others – my kids, my husband, aged parents, friends, family, work colleagues . . . I have supported them to flourish and grow. It would be true to say that my life has been extremely busy, with very little time for myself and, over the years, I have lived my life through others – if they were happy, then so was I. But was I really?
When all was said and done, I was sad, depressed, and exhausted. I had become a ‘couch potato’ and let myself go. I had lost my identity, and confidence and self-esteem were at an all-time low.
I had gained weight, a lot of it, developed high blood pressure and bad knees, my children were now adults and living their own lives, and then I lost my job abruptly in March 2020 and it was highly unlikely that at my age I would be able to secure a similar job role, or remain within the same industry I had been in for some 30 plus years.
So, what was I to do? What was I going to do with the rest of my life moving forward?

It was time for some serious thought and decision making! 2020 certainly afforded the opportunity for much reflection. For the first time in a long time I could put myself first, make time for myself and really think about what I wanted for the remainder of my life.
Ultimately, what would make me truly happy? I knew that I wanted to be healthy, fit and enjoy a richer, more fulfilled lifestyle, and one I could be personally proud of. I also knew that there would be no ‘quick fix’ – this was going to require a lifelong commitment.
Long story short, I prioritised my health and fitness, gave up smoking, achieved outstanding weight loss results within a relatively short time span, and developed a passion for health and wellness, so much so that I became a certified nutritionist so that I could legitimately share what I had learned with other women in a similar situation to myself. I could now coach, motivate, inspire and empower other women like myself to take action to achieve a better future for themselves.
During this time, I also re-discovered my love for Caribbean-Inspired food and cooking. I realised that making smarter food choices and living a genuinely healthier lifestyle did not mean giving up on the foods, tastes and flavours that I grew up with (I have been cooking since the age of 13). I wanted to share this love of tasty, homemade Caribbean inspired recipes and prove that healthy does not have to mean boring and the loss of delicious tastes and flavours.
So now I can invite you to take a food trip around the Caribbean with me and learn about the health benefits of its seasonings, spices and cuisine, whilst trying out the extensive platter of colourful and healthy, Caribbean inspired recipes, which include breakfast, lunch, and dinner easy to make meals, snacks, desserts, sauces, and drinks: healthy, delicious and satisfying.
